Attempts to register unisex "marriages" in Moscow illegal lawful, self-publicity - registry office

Moscow, July 18, Interfax - Attempts to register the same sex "marriages" in the capital registry offices were made only to attract attention of media to the so-called "brides" and "grooms," head of the Moscow registrar's office Irina Muravyova says.

She believes such "newly weds" came to get a refusal in the written form rather than to register their marriage.

"They stand in the doors and there's a dozen of TV cameras behind them," Muravyova said.

She reminded that according to the Russian legislation only marriages between men and women are legally lawful.
