Pyatigorsk, April 10, Interfax - The militants killed in the Neftekumsk District of Stavropol Territory early hours on April 10 had been plotting terror attacks to be carried out during the upcoming religious and public holidays in early May, the Federal Security Service's territorial department has reported.
There is information that the men were directly involved in the preparation of subversive activities, including the central market, a Christian church, and a Sberbank office, the information center of the National Anti-Terrorist Committee told Interfax.
At the time of clash with the law enforcement officials the militants were heading to Mineralnyye Vody to receive instructions from the head of a militant group on how to carry out terrorist acts.
"During the negotiations, the militants were asked to surrender their weapons several times, but they refused to turn themselves in to the authorities and tried to break the police cordon by throwing grenades. The police returned fire, neutralizing them," the source said.
