40 detained at gay rally in central Moscow - police

Moscow, October 3, Interfax - Police have detained about 40 people at an authorized gay rally on Chistoprudny Bulvar in central Moscow, a spokesman for the Moscow Police Department told reporters on Saturday.

About 40 people took part in the gay action, but 30 young people, who had gathered near the scene, attempted to break the rally up.

"Police have detained about 40 people and seized tomatoes and a paintball marker from them," the spokesman said.

All those held have been taken to police stations, where their administrative offences will be documented.
