Medvedev congratulates Russian Jews on Rosh Hashanah

Moscow, September 8, Interfax - President Dmitry Medvedev on Wednesday congratulated Russian Jews on Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish new year festival, for their contribution to society.

"Russian Jews following their old religious commandments particularly venerate this holiday of spiritual catharsis and bright hopes for the future. It stimulates creativity and moral improvement, mutual understanding, kindness and care for your neighbor. These values are close to the followers of all religions and have served as foundation for good neighborhood, peace and accord in our country for centuries," Medvedev said in a congratulatory telegram.

"By reviving its rich traditions today, the Russian Jewish community is making a substantial contribution to the preservation of ethnic and cultural diversity, the atmosphere of tolerance and mutual understanding in our society," he said.
