St. Petersburg, January 9, Interfax – The 1st in Russia international cinema festival dedicated to non-conventional love - Side by Side - is to take place in October 2-5 in a historical building of the House of cinema in St. Petersburg.
‘We hope the festival will become an important event not only to representatives of sexual minorities but to the wide public in St. Petersburg and Russia’, the festival’s organizer Irina Sergeyeva said.
‘The festival is an invitation for a talk among neighboring people, who love and suffer, bring up their children and care for the destiny of this country. The success of the festival will be a kind of acid-test to access the state of our society and to show whether the rights of individual personality and the freedom of choice are observed’, Sergeyeva said.
The festival’s competitive program is to include feature-length films, documentaries and shorts, experimental and alternative works by the authors, who have gained recognition around the globe.
According to organizers, hundreds of movies by 2006-2007 from all around the world are announced to participate in the festival; however there are no Russian films among them.
Festival’s initiators hope that it will become ‘an annual event in cultural life of the city’.
