St. Petersburg gay pride parade to be rescheduled

St. Petersburg, August 1, Interfax - The organizing committee of the gay pride parade in St. Petersburg, which was scheduled for September 8, the day of the beginning of the Siege of Leningrad, is planning to conduct the parade on another day.

"We respect city holidays and understand very well the feelings of local residents, so we have decided to change the date. The event will be held in early September, but the date will not coincide with any important holiday or any commemorative date," head of the organizational committee Edward Murzin said in a statement posted on the community's website.

It was reported earlier that in early July the organization committee said it was planning to conduct a gay pride parade on September 8, a memorable date for all city residents.
