Russian society must oppose gay pride parade - Metropolitan Kirill

Moscow, March 15, Interfax - The idea of conducting a gay pride parade in Moscow is directed against the majority of Russian society, chairman of the Moscow Patriarchate Department of External Church Relations Metropolitan Kirill of Smolensk and Kaliningrad told the Vesti-24 TV Channel.

"We believe that the law should not interfere in citizens' private lives. You can sin if you want to, but you will answer to God. However, if you are trying to propagate your sin by seducing and degrading people, society must oppose it," Kirill said.

If a gay pride parade is staged in central Moscow, then it would "mean something is wrong with democracy. Democracy should be for everyone, but it appears that we have double standards," he said.
