Orthodox Church of Jerusalem urges West to stop attacks on Patriarch Kirill

Moscow, July 22, Interfax - Archbishop Theodosios of Sebastia, a hierarch of the Orthodox Church of Jerusalem, has condemned Western countries' hostility toward Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia in a personal statement.

"We in the sacred city of Jerusalem are expressing regret and condemning actions undertaken by Western political forces against the Russian Orthodox Church and its primate, His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia," Archbishop Theodosios said in his statement quoted by the Russian Orthodox Church Department for External Church Relations.

The archbishop went on to recall that recently, Canada placed Patriarch Kirill on the list of sanctioned persons. "This lawlessness is being backed by some other Western countries. We perceive this kind of action as part of a bigger plan aimed at weakening the role and authority of the Orthodox Church, its spiritual mission in the contemporary world and eliminating those moral values that it preaches," he said.
