Nur-Sultan, November 26, Interfax - Kazakhstan Senate Speaker Maulen Ashimbayev has given Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia an invitation from President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev to the 7th Congress of Leaders of World and Traditional Religions, the Kazakh Orthodox News Agency (APN) reported on Friday.
The patriarch and the senate speaker earlier met in Moscow in the synodal residence of the St. Daniel Monastery.
Representatives of more than 100 ethnic groups and 18 religions live peacefully in Kazakhstan, Ashimbayev said at the meeting.
"Two religions, Islam and Orthodox Christianity, play a special role in Kazakhstan. The law on religious activities in our country states that Kazakhstan recognizes the historical role of Hanafi Islam and Orthodox Christianity in the cultural and spiritual life of our people. Therefore, we build all our domestic policies on this track with regard for this priority," Ashimbayev was quoted as saying by APN.
The 7th Congress of Leaders of World and Traditional Religions will be held in Nur-Sultan on September 14-15, 2022.
Congresses of world and traditional religions have been held in the capital of Kazakhstan at the initiative of first President Nursultan Nazarbayev since 2003.
