Moscow, November 22, Interfax - Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia believes that Russia can set an example for other countries in terms of respecting freedoms.
"We really are a free country. This is a real fact. I can imagine what kind of reaction there will be from different sides to these words of mine, but I can prove that Russia today is really the leader of the free world. We are free from the most powerful external influences. We are developing along our own path and God grant that this path will be successful," the patriarch said in his interview for the Rossiya 1 television channel on Saturday, November 20 when he celebrated his 75th birthday.
Russia can serve as an example for others, and although it has many problems, they are solvable, he said. "We don't have any hot topic right now around which public interests clash and deep, irreconcilable contradictions unfold. I believe this is the grace of God," the patriarch added.
At the same time, the disputes that take place in contemporary Russian society do not do it any harm, the head of the Russian Orthodox Church said. "The existing difference of opinions, precisely a normal difference of opinion that does not destroy the foundations of human life, state existence, and spiritual life creates the ground for a creative clash of opinions, as a result of which new ideas and new projects aimed at the further development of our Fatherland may emerge," the patriarch said.
