Makhachkala, February 10, Interfax - The Buinaksk City Court in Russia's internal republic of Dagestan has convicted a local resident of murdering the chairman of the city's Jewish community, a spokesperson for the region's Supreme Court told Interfax.
"The court sentenced resident of the city of Buinaksk Artur Abdullayev to ten years in a high-security penitentiary for intentionally causing grievous bodily harm resulting in manslaughter by negligence, Part 4 of Article 111 of the Russian Criminal Code. Abdullayev caused bodily harm to chairman of the city's Jewish community Izgiyagu Pashayev, punching different parts of his body with fists several times. Pashayev died as a result of it," the spokesperson said.
Investigators believe that Pashayev visited Abdullayev at his home in Buinaksk on March 13, 2020. A conflict broke out between the two men, subsequently escalating into a fight, during which Abdullayev beat up Pashayev.
"Izgiyagu Pashayev was hospitalized unconscious. Pashayev died in the hospital several days later without regaining consciousness," the court spokesperson said, adding that the two men had known each other before the incident.
