Charter flight with Chassids onboard arrived at Transcarpathia

Kiev, July 22, Interfax - Charter plane from Israel with pilgrims who are going to visit the village of Bushtin in the Transcarpathian Region has landed at the Uzhgorod Airport.

"Every year Chassids come to Transcarpathia to visit the grave and to commemorate one of the spiritual leaders of the Jewish community, who is buried in the Jewish cemetery near the synagogue in Bushtina, the Tyachev District. Jews have a tradition to visit the graves of their spiritual guides all around the world," the Transcarpathian regional administration reported on its website.

Earlier, participants in the interdepartmental meeting in the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry jointly decided that it would impossible to admit dozens of thousands of Hasid pilgrims to the city of Uman in the Cherkasy Region to celebrate the Jewish feast Rosh Hashanah as usual in 2020 due to the epidemiological situation in Israel, the ban on mass events in Ukraine, the need to set up a large number of places for observation and the difficulties the law enforcement officials may face when they monitor how pilgrims observe self-isolation regime.
