Kubinka, June 22, Interfax - Russia's defense capacity and security are solidly ensured, and the current generation of soldiers and officers is committed to the traditions and behests of the generation of victors, President Vladimir Putin said.
"The current generation of soldiers and officers is committed to the traditions and properly fulfills every mission. We know that the defense capacity and security of the state are solidly ensured," Putin said while visiting the Russian Armed Forces' mega-church, Resurrection of Christ Cathedral, on the Day of Memory and Sorrow.
The Armed Forces are being modernized and provided with new hardware, and their combat capacities are broadening, he said. "Yet valor, devotion to duty, honor, and boundless love for fatherland will remain the foundation of military profession in all times," Putin said.
These unquestionable values help the Russian Armed Forces keep the watch "aligning with the thousand-year history of the country, the unbreakable behests of the generation of victors, and the iron-clad, unshakable valor of soldiers who took the first battle at dawn on June 22, 1941 and gave the whole world and the future of May 9, 1945," he said.
"Memory eternal to fallen heroes, deepest gratitude to the veterans, and glory to the Russian Armed Forces," Putin said.
Prior to that, Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia delivered a short service in the cathedral.
