Services on Passion Week and Easter will be held without parishioners in Moscow and the Moscow Region

Moscow, April 12, Interfax - The Russian Orthodox Church decided to carry out services of the Passion Week and Easter without parishioners in Moscow and the Moscow Region.

According to Patriarch Kirill's blessing, rectors of parishes and representation churches, hegumens and hegumenias of monasteries located in Moscow and the Moscow Region should fulfill the instructions of the authorities and from April 13 to April 19 "celebrate services only with church clerics attending, staff and volunteers can also attend if necessary," the Patriarch's first vicar Metropolitan Dionisy of Voskresensk said in his circular letter posted by the Russian Church official website.

The patriarchal vicar explains that the church authorities took such a decision as the epidemiological situation in the Moscow Region aggravated and "according to the doctors, in case the dynamics remains the same, it can result in catastrophic consequences."
