Minsk, March 24, Interfax - Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko has said he believes that the peak of coronavirus in the country will have passed by Orthodox Easter on April 19.
"We'll use your [China's] experience and our experience in order to pass the peak at the maximum acceptable level. If we endure until Orthodox Easter, that means we'll live," the presidential press service cited Lukashenko as saying at a meeting with Chinese Ambassador Cui Qiming in Minsk on Tuesday.
A lot of things happen in life, but refraining from panicking is most important, Lukashenko said. "My worst fear is that people will be infected with a psychosis because of what is happening in the media. And psychosis causes all the remaining illnesses. Experts are also saying that," he said.
Additionally, Belarusian medics are focusing primarily on people who are at risk and most likely to have a severe case of coronavirus, Lukashenko said.
"Our doctors are thus far capable of dealing with these illnesses, but we're not planning to let our guard down," he said.
As reported earlier, as of March 23, 81 cases of coronavirus have been recorded in Belarus.
