Dushanbe, March 4, Interfax - The Council of Ulems (theologians) of the Islamic Center of Tajikistan has called on believers to refrain from participating in collective prayers to prevent the spread of coronavirus.
"The Council of Ulems of the Islamic Center of Tajikistan, with regard for recommendations of the republic's Healthcare and Social Security Ministry, is calling on the clergy to refrain from collective prayers ion mosques, with the exception of funeral prayers, to prevent the spread of coronavirus," according to a statement published on the council website.
The theologians urged the country's residents to observe personal hygiene, keep their residences clean, refrain from visiting crowded places and immediately seek medical assistance if they feel poorly.
"People who have an infection should not hide it because Muslims should not harm themselves and each other," the council said.
According to medics, no coronavirus cases have been registered in the republic yet.
