Yekaterinburg, May 20, Interfax - Sverdlovsk Region Governor Yevgeny Kuivashev has invited the residents of Yekaterinburg to discuss alternative sites for building the Great Martyr St. Catherine's Church, the regional information policy department said.
"We will publish a list of possible sites for building the church in the media and on the websites of regional and city government bodies as early as on Monday. Apart from the park on Oktyabrskaya Square, these will be at least four other potential sites," the statement quotes Kuivashev as saying.
City dwellers are also welcome to propose their own options, he said.
"We will certainly consider and discuss all of them together with you. Then we will poll the residents. And will make a final decision together. We will do that openly," he said.
Unauthorized protests against the construction of the church in the park on Oktyabrskaya Square in the center of Yekaterinburg began on May 13. Dozens of protesters have been detained, and 102 administrative reports have been drawn up in relation to 98 people. More than 30 people have been placed under administrative arrest.
