Moscow, February 5, Interfax - President Vladimir Putin has congratulated Russian Buddhists on the White Moon and the Lunar New Year, according to a statement posted on the Kremlin website.
"Russian Buddhists follow centuries-old historical, cultural and spiritual traditions of their ancestors and grandly celebrate this remarkable event. It is customary to sum up results of the previous year and sincerely wish each other health and accomplishment of everything intended on the festive days, which symbolize rejuvenation of man and nature. Also, support is given to the loved ones and to those in need of care," Putin said in his greetings.
"Importantly, Buddhist communities are actively involved in the life of our country; they are strengthening interaction with state and civic organizations and are focusing on education of the young and implementation of significant charity and educational initiatives," Putin said.
"Their fruitful work deserves utmost respect," he said.
Putin wished Buddhists "a successful and prosperous" New Year.
