Moscow, January 22, Interfax - Patriarch Theophilos III of Jerusalem, who canceled his meeting with Ukrainian President Pyotr Poroshenko yesterday, has met with believers of the canonical Ukrainian Orthodox Church, the UOC's press service said.
UOC pilgrims had gone to Jerusalem led by the vicar of the Odessa Diocese. With the blessing of Metropolitan Agafangel of Odessa and Ismail, the diocese's clergy and parishioners bowed before ancient holy relics.
Addressing the Ukrainian pilgrims, Patriarch Theophilos said that he was praying for peace in their country and sending his blessing to "the loyal children" of the canonical UOC.
Sources said yesterday that Theophilos' meeting with Poroshenko, which had been scheduled for January 21, had been canceled due to the patriarch's illness. The Ukrainian president went to the Wailing Wall instead.
