Tomos is piece of paper without canonical force - Russian Orthodox Church

Moscow, January 5, Interfax - The Russian Orthodox Church has reminded of Christmas being the main event during these days, and not the tomos signed in Istanbul, which has no canonical force.

"It is Christmas, and not the tomos, a paper that is a result of unbridled political and personal ambitions. Signed in violation of the canons and thus possessing no canonical force," Vladimir Legoyda, head of the Synodal Department for Church, Society and Media Relations, wrote on Telegram on Saturday.

"Let us not forget that the main topic now for us, Orthodox Christians, is the Birth of Christ! Our joy about the Savior's coming to the world," he said.

"However some Ukrainian politicians tried, with the aid from Istanbul's patriarch, to steal Christmas from millions of believers in Ukraine - it will still come," Legoyda said.
