Patriarch Kirill concerned about recent events in Russian-Ukrainian relations spokesman

Moscow, December 5, Interfax - Due to the request of Metropolitan Agafangel of Odessa to Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia for his assistance in the release of the Ukrainian sailors, his associate has recalled his active participation in the exchange of prisoners of war.

"The patriarch is yet to receive Metropolitan Agafangel's letter. But in general, in terms of the situation, which has recently emerged in relations between Russia and Ukraine, it must be noted that His Holiness Patriarch Kirill is very saddened by the current state of affairs," Priest Alexander Volkov, the patriarch's spokesman, told Interfax on Tuesday evening.

According to him, Patriarch Kirill is praying that the confrontation between "our fraternal nations" be overcome and regularly makes all efforts that may depend on the Church in terms of a humanitarian, peacekeeping mission.

"In this context, the positive experience of the participation of the Russian Church and personally its head in the recent exchanges of prisoners of war is well known," he said.
