Upcoming 'uniting' assembly in Ukraine to have negligible canonical consequences - Russian Orthodox Church

Moscow, November 14, Interfax - The Moscow Patriarchate is skeptical about the outlooks of the so-called "uniting" assembly, which the Patriarchate of Constantinople convenes with Ukrainian authorities' support to establishing a church independent from Moscow.

"The so-called uniting assembly, no matter when it takes place, will have inconsiderable canonical consequences, because the only canonical Ukrainian Orthodox Church will not officially attend it in line with the decree issued at its Archbishops Council, which met yesterday," Secretary of the Moscow Patriarchate's Department for External Church Relations Archpriest Igor Yakimchuk told Interfax on Wednesday.
