Ukrainian Orthodox Church eagerly wants to protect its name - Bishop's Council

Moscow, November 13, Interfax - The Ukrainian Orthodox Church's Council of Bishops, which has met in Kiev on Tuesday, has informed Ukrainian authorities of their plans to preserve their historical name.

"The Bishop's Council is standing up against any attempts to change the Ukrainian Orthodox Church's name, as the top state officials have already stated that, and against other manifestations of discrimination against Ukrainian Orthodox Church's believers at the legislative level," the UOC's Bishop's Council said in a resolution seen by Interfax on Tuesday.

Should the Verkhovnaya Rada pass relevant bills, the Ukrainian Orthodox Church "will protect its rights in every legal way, which is stipulated in 'The Foundations of the Social Concept of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church', the Ukrainian legislation and the European Human Rights Convention," according to the hierarchs.
