Kiev, October 26, Interfax - The unified church in Ukraine will be called the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, the self-proclaimed "Kiev Patriarchate" said.
It said it hopes that the parliament will obligate the Church now registered as the Ukrainian Orthodox Church to indicate its belonging to the Moscow Patriarchate.
"The name will be the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, officially. The second name is the Kiev Patriarchate," Filaret Denisenko, the head of the "Kiev Patriarchate", said at a press conference in Kiev on Friday.
If the Ukrainian Autocephalous Orthodox Church has questions about the second name, a mutual understanding will be found, he said.
Yevstraty Zorya, the press secretary of the "Kiev Patriarchate", said this decision is in line with the position of the Constantinople Patriarchate regarding names.
Discussing the name of the church of the Moscow Patriarchate, he said the parliament has a bill that proposes obligating religious organizations whose center is located in the "aggressor state" to state the name of the religious center in their official names.
