Kremlin following current session of Holy Synod of Russian Orthodox Church - Peskov

Moscow, September 14, Interfax - A preferable scenario for the Orthodoxy in Ukraine is the preservation of the unity of the Orthodox world, Russian presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov said.

"No doubt, the only preferable scenario for Moscow and essentially the entire Orthodox world is the preservation of the unity of this Orthodox world," Peskov told reporters on Friday.

The Kremlin is following the situation with the Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Ukraine and the current session of the Holy Synod of the Russian Orthodox Church, he said.

"No doubt, the Kremlin is following this event. No doubt, the alarming information on possible decisions on the church in Ukraine, of course, causes concerns," Peskov said.

"At the same time, these are issues relating to inter-church dialogue, these are church affairs, the state cannot intervene in them," he said.
