Situation surrounding Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Kiev is state's brutal interference in Church affairs - Russian Foreign Ministry

Moscow, September 13, Interfax - A brutal interference in Church affairs on the part of the state is observed in Ukraine, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova said.

"Regrettably, we can see a manipulation, on the part of the state, in the area of religion and religious beliefs, faith and the people's right to free choice of religion in Ukraine," Zakharova told a press briefing on Thursday in commenting the decision of the Constantinople Patriarchate to appoint two exarchs to Kiev.

It was "a brutal, insensitive interference in the affairs of the Church on the part of Ukrainian President Pyotr Poroshenko," Zakharova said.
