Moscow, July 6, Interfax - An Orthodox onboard church, closed in 1917, started working on the Aurora cruiser, press service of the Western Military District reported.
The church was restored basing on archive photos and drawings. It is located at the central part of the boat above the skylight. The icons are fixed at the sliding iconostasis, church objects and all necessary accessories were also set up. Divine service will be celebrated at the cruiser on church feasts and Sundays.
Cruiser of the first rank Aurora is included in the military Baltic Fleet, it was built in St. Petersburg in 1903. The cruiser crew participated in Russian-Japanese War (1904-1905), World War I (1914-1918), events of the Civil War and military intervention in Russia (1918-1922), and World War II (1941-1945).
On November 7, a blank shot from the cruiser forecastle gun signaled the start of the assault on the Winter Palace, which was to be the beginning of the October Revolution.
