Astana, June 7, Interfax - Kasym-Zhomart Tokayev, chairman of the senate of the parliament of Kazakhstan, has given the state secretary of the Vatican an invitation from President Nursultan Nazarbayev to Pope Francis to attend the Congress of Leaders of World and Traditional Religions, which will be held in Astana on October 10-11, the senate press service said.
An invitation to visit the capital of Kazakhstan to attend the forum was also given to Cardinal Pietro Parolin.
The cardinal thanked him for the invitation, saying that the forum "is becoming increasingly popular in the world and said the Vatican will continue supporting the efforts of Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev to establish peace and accord between people of all creeds," the press service said.
In the 26 years from the foundation of diplomatic relations between Kazakhstan and the Vatican, the two countries established constructive cooperation based on full mutual understanding and trust at the highest level," Tokayev said.
The meeting participants said the two countries see eye-to-eye on issues relating to the strengthening of global security and further dialogue between religions, cultures and civilizations.
