Moscow, February 27, Interfax - Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia will visit the Bulgarian Orthodox Church on March 2-4, 2018.
"His Holiness Patriarch Kirill will visit Bulgaria at the invitation of His Holiness Patriarch Neophyte of Bulgaria and the Holy Synod of the Bulgarian Church on the occasion of the celebration of the 140th anniversary of the liberation of Bulgaria from the Ottoman yoke," the Russian patriarch's press secretary, Rev. Alexander Volkov, told journalists.
During the visit, Kirill will attend commemorative events, pay tribute to those who fell during the liberation of Bulgaria in the 1877-1878 Russo-Turkish War, and perform a prayer service at the Memorial Temple of the Birth of Christ in Shipka.
It is expected that the two patriarchs will conduct a liturgy at Alexander Nevsky Cathedral in Sofia.
Patriarch Kirill will also bow to the holy remains of Seraphim of Bogucharovo, beatified by the Russian and Bulgarian Orthodox Churches in 2016, at his resting place in the Russian Church of St. Nicholas in the Bulgarian capital.
During the visit, Patriarch Kirill is also expected to meet with Bulgarian government officials.
