Moscow, December 26, Interfax - Today about 120 Christian churches in Syria need restoration, head of the Synodal Department for External Church Relations Metropolitan Hilarion says.
"The Russian Orthodox Church together with Catholic organization "Church in Need" prepared a catalogue of destroyed Christian churches of Syria. This catalogue includes about 120 churches. The level of destruction is different: some churches are almost destroyed, others are significantly damaged, some are desecrated, and it demands big work on their restoration," the metropolitan said on the Church and the World program on Rossiya-24 television channel.
He noted that shrines of other confessions were also damaged, so hard complex work was needed return life in Syria to normal channel.
According to Metropolitan Hilarion, the Russian Church together with the Russian state will contribute in restoring shrines of various religions and residential infrastructure of Syria.
