Moscow, December 18, Interfax - Head of the Synodal Department for External Church Relations of the Moscow Patriarchate Metropolitan Hilarion considers a provocation the decision taken by American president Donald Trump to recognize Jerusalem as Israeli capital.
"Today at the background of negotiations conducted at the international level about recognition of Palestinian autonomy as a full-fledged state, this step is certainly provocative. It is not by chance that it has already provoked clashes" the metropolitan said on air the Church and the World program on Rossiya-24 (VGTRK) television channel, answering the correspondent question.
He urged to remember that Jerusalem is the holy city of three world religions, not only for Judaism, but also for Christianity and Islam.
Metropolitan Hilarion reminded that at the site of the ancient Jewish temple remains the only wall called the Wailing Wall, behind it is the Mosque of Omar: "attention of three religions concentrates in this small city."
"Those rather fragile balances that have been reached should not be violated or it can result in explosion, which we can witness today," the hierarch believes.
