Moscow, December 7, Interfax - Patriarch John of Antioch and All East told the journalists in Moscow that over 120 churches were destroyed in Syria during war years.
Answering the question about two metropolitans kidnapped in Syria several years ago he said he hoped for "optimistic settlement."
According to the patriarch, Syria is not the country of extremists, but the country of culture and sciences and there are still fraternal relations between Muslims and Christians of Russia.
"Despite the things that happened we are still with Muslims, with our brothers, and we will build the future together," he said.
Patriarch John thanked Russian President Vladimir Putin and the whole Russian people for readiness to help Syria in building up peaceful life.
