Moscow, October 2, Interfax - The attempted murder of a preacher has been averted in Russia's internal republic of Ingushetia and two gang members have been detained, the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) reported.
"The Russian FSB took a number of measures, as a result of which the attempted murder of a public and religious figure of the republic was averted. The plan was to employ a method dangerous to the public, which is to use a high-power improvised explosive device," the FSB's press service said in a statement obtained by Interfax on Monday.
Two members of a criminal gang have been detained, it said. Improvised explosive devices, "explosives, and means of terrorism" ready for use were found in their residences, the press service said.
A criminal case may be opened against the detainees, it said.
"Information on the detainees' identities is not reported until the end of investigative actions to document their criminal activities. Operational search activities to determine the detainees' criminal connections are underway," it said.
