Lukashenko suggests organizing meeting between Patriarch Kirill, pope in Minsk

Minsk, September 28, Interfax - A meeting between Pope Francis and Patriarch Kirill could be organized in Minsk, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko said at a meeting with participants in the plenary session of the Council of European Bishops' Conferences (CCEE) on Thursday.

"The effectiveness of a meeting between the pope and Patriarch Kirill was mentioned here. Somewhere far away, on Cuba. I think we should think of organizing their meeting here, in Minsk. Today it's exactly the place where issues of the West and the East, the North and the South, the whole planet can be discussed," the BelTA agency quoted Lukashenko as saying.

"If you achieve this understanding with the Orthodox Church, the people of Belarus and I will do everything to ensure that you, your leaders, our leaders, of the Catholic and Orthodox Churches, make this meeting in Minsk historical. Think about this," the president said.
