Not a single instance of harassment against gays reported in Chechnya Lavrov

Moscow, July 13, Interfax - Instances of discrimination against members of the LGBT community are not reported in Chechnya, Russian authorities will respond in line with the current legislation, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said on Thursday.

"Despite plenty of data, there is no a single name and fact, which links these reports to any city, any place or a date, up to now in the public space, and in general as part of the investigation, which our ombudsman is tasked to undertake," Lavrov said at a press conference in Berlin.

"If there are certain facts, we will definitely react to them," the minister said.

"If any human rights breaches against members of the LGBT community are reported in Russia, I want to assure you that our law is quite tough," Lavrov said.
