Putin in congratulation on Eid al-Fitr speaks of Muslims' role in maintaining civil peace, accord

Moscow, June 25, Interfax - Russian President Vladimir Putin has congratulated Russian Muslims on Eid al-Fitr (Uraza Bayram), the presidential press service said on Sunday.

"Uraza Bayram is one of the main religious holidays, which Muslims have marked fro many centuries worldwide. Completing the holy month of Ramadan, it has a deep moral meaning, it personifies the joy of renewal, a wish to self-perfection, readiness to do good things and help the needy," the president said in his congratulation.

"It is good that Russian Muslims keep the rich spiritual, historical heritage of their ancestors. They keep the traditions of their fathers and grandfathers, and they involve the younger generation in them. The active involvement of Muslim organizations in the country's public, cultural life, in the implementation of popular charity, education, enlightenment and patriotic initiatives deserves the most sincere respect," Putin said.

"And of course, I will especially note their role in maintaining civil peace and accord, strengthening of friendship and mutual understanding between people," Putin said.
