The Russian Church will introduce its ecological initiatives to the UN

Moscow, March 20, Interfax - Photo exhibition People, Who Change the World that tells about environmental initiatives of the Russian Orthodox Church will be presented in December at the World Assembly of the UN environment programme (UNEP) in Nairobi (Kenya).

Such a decision was taken by Bishop Diodor of Melekess and Cherdakly, who initiated the photo exhibition, in response to the corresponding UNEP request, the press service of the diocese reports.

"Today, society and politicians of the world should recognize that the man has stepped over the line dividing harmony with nature and moderate consumption from thoughtless destruction and ecological crisis following it," such words of the head of the Synodal Department for External Church Relations Metropolitan Hilarion were cited in the message.

According to the metropolitan, the Russian Orthodox Church pays attention to the questions of careful and responsible attitude to environment and stresses the importance of initiatives directed at environmental protection.
