Kazakh MPs seek criminal liability for homosexuality

Astana, January 14, Interfax - Several Kazakh parliamentarians have proposed introducing criminal liability for homosexual conduct.

"The deputies have proposed introducing liability for lesbian relations, or, let me say, other similar sexual relations. In other words, we should assume a more hard-line approach to this," Kazakh parliamentarian Nurlan Abdirov said at a session of the lower chamber's legislation and judicial reform committee, which debated a new draft Penal Code for the country.

"Different issues have been discussed at sessions [of the working group]" during the debate on this document, he said.
