Protesters: pact with EU to mean Ukraine's "homosexualization"

Kiev, November 6, Interfax - About 30 activists held a demonstration outside the German Embassy in Kiev on Tuesday, protesting the planned association agreement between Ukraine and the European Union as a path to "the inevitable homosexualization of Ukraine."

The protesters were angered by the draft agreement citing an EU directive that allegedly aims to support homosexual propaganda in EU countries.

The demonstrators, who represented the Parents Committee of Ukraine, Ukrainian Choice and other organizations, accused groups such as the German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ) and Heinrich Boell Foundation of promoting values unacceptable to Ukrainian society and sponsoring organizations advocating lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) rights.

This, they argued, was destroying Ukrainian children's personalities and threatening family values in Ukraine, an Interfax correspondent reported from the scene.

"We are against the Association Agreement with the EU because it will lead to the inevitable homosexualization of Ukraine. We have repeatedly appealed to the Ukrainian government and [lawmakers] to remove from the text of the agreement about the homosexual Directive 2000/78/EU and other provisions that disseminate homosexuality, or to supplement the agreement with conditions that would secure our sovereign right to political decisions based on traditional morality. This is possible, the Polish experience of integration [into the EU] is evidence of it," said Parents Committee co-chairman Oleksandr Skvortsov.
