Ban on gay propaganda won't affect sexual minorities' rights - Naryshkin

Strasbourg, October 2, Interfax - State Duma Speaker Sergey Naryshkin said he does not think the law banning homosexual propaganda among minors will be a discriminatory instrument against sexual minorities.

"Some argued that the law will become an instrument of discrimination against sexual minorities. I don't agree with them," Naryshkin told the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe in Strasbourg.

"People of any sexual orientation face no curbs in this respect either in their work, or studies, or socio-political activities," he said.

Representatives of sexual minorities "build their lives freely and in accordance with their preferences," he also said.

"But nothing should be imposed, or worse still popularized among minors," Naryshkin said.
