Russia will reject Germany's criticism of homosexuality propaganda bill - Duma deputy

Moscow, June 13, Interfax - Russia is not going to take into account the German leadership's criticism of a bill on administrative liability for propaganda of nontraditional sexual relations among minors, says Alexei Pushkov, the head of the State Duma international affairs committee.

"[German Chancellor Angela] Merkel calls on Russia not to ban propaganda of homosexuality. This call will not be heard. A bitter conflict of values is ahead," Pushkov said on Twitter on Wednesday.

The State Duma passed the bill imposing fines for propaganda of non-traditional sexual relations among minors at the third and final reading on Wednesday. The bill amends the federal law On the Protection of Children from Information Causing Harm to Their Health and Development and some regulations on protecting children from information propagating the denial of traditional family values.

The bill provides for administrative fines for propaganda of non-traditional sexual relations among minors through "disseminating information aimed at forming non-traditional sexual attitudes in minors, making non-traditional sexual relations appealing to them, and encouraging their distorted perception of social equivalence of traditional and non-traditional sexual relations or imposing information on non-traditional sexual relations in a way arousing interest in such relations."
