St. Petersburg authorities allow sexual minorities to hold rally - LGBT activists

St. Petersburg, May 13, Interfax - Lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) organizations of St. Petersburg say that authorities allowed them to hold a rally at the Field of Mars on the International Day against Homophobia and Transphobia on May 17.

Activists have developed several ways to participate in the rally on-line for those who can not attend the rally, which mostly apply to users of Vkontakte social network, Coming Out organization said in a press release.

Interfax does not have a comment of St. Petersburg authorities on the issue.

On May 17, 1990, the World Health Organization excluded homosexuality from the list of psychological disorders. "Rainbow flashmobs" are held world-wide on this day - event participants send multicolor balloons into the sky.
