Oslo Mayor bring his “spouse” to Vilnius in protest of gay discrimination in Lithuania

Vilnius, June 22, Interfax/BNS – The Oslo Mayor Erling Lae brought his lover Jens Olsen to an international mayoral forum in Vilnius during the weekend.

The Norwegian capital’s mayor said he did it because of a complex gay situation in Lithuania the Lietuvos Zinios daily has reported on Monday.

“Jens didn’t have to travel with me. Though, I want to stress I’m married to a man and it’s my conscious choice,” the Oslo mayor said.

Commenting on the Vilnius Mayor Navickas’ recent statement that he would allow a gay parade on the Savanoriu Avenue, however, would not tolerate their demonstration in the city center, Lae said the gay situation in Lithuania was “worse than in other two Baltic states” and accused Vilnius of resisting the EU counter-discrimination directive.
