Israel ready for talks with Russia on Jewish Agency situation – PM
Jerusalem, July 27, Interfax - Israel stands ready for a dialogue with Russia regarding the situation surrounding the Russian office of the Jewish Agency for Israel (Sochnut), Israeli Prime Minister Yair Lapid said.
"Israel-Russia relations lean on history, continuous contact, and shared interests," Lapid said.
"If there are indeed legal matters that arise from the Jewish Agency's important activities in Russia, Israel, as always, is prepared to hold a dialogue," he said.
The Kremlin said earlier that the situation surrounding the Jewish Agency for Israel in Russia should not be politicized or extended to the entire range of Russian-Israeli relations.
"Indeed, this situation requires a very cautious approach; indeed, there are some questions for Sochnut regarding the observance of Russian law, and this situation should not be politicized or extended to the entire range of Russian-Israeli relations," Russian presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov said.
He reiterated that the situation requires a cautious approach.
"At the same time, it should be understood that all organizations should absolutely abide by Russian law, and that this is a common requirement for all," Peskov said.
