27 June 2022, 16:19Izyum Diocese in Ukraine's Kharkov Region refuses to be independent of Russian Orthodox Church
Moscow, June 27, Interfax - The Izyum Diocese uniting parishes in almost half of districts in the Kharkov Region, has disagreed with the decision of the Council of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UOC) of May 27, which condemned Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia Kirill's stance on the Russian special operation in Ukraine and declared the UOC independent from the Moscow Patriarchate.
"The Izyum Diocese decided to keep the statute that was in place before May 27. We have not changed anything, we pray for His Holiness the patriarch, we are with our patriarch," Metropolitan Elisey of Izyum and Kupyansk said in an interview with the Rossiya-24 television channel.
The priests of the Izyum Diocese unanimously supported this decision, he said. At the same time, the metropolitan noted that the clergy and parishioners of his diocese continue to pray for the UOC head, Metropolitan Onufry.
Metropolitan Elisey deems it wrong to denounce Patriarch Kirill. "We do not need to look for something to condemn this man, and we have no right to do so. We do not have this right - to judge, especially the patriarch. Judgment is made over us all by God," the metropolitan said.
The town of Izyum has been under control of Russian troops since March 24. |
