21 June 2022, 19:02Jerusalem Patriarchate condemns Western rhetoric against Patriarch Kirill
Moscow, June 21, Interfax - Hierarch of the Orthodox Church of Jerusalem Archbishop Theodosius (Hanna) of Sebastia has spoken in support of Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia amid attempts by Western countries to impose sanctions on him for the prelate's position on Ukraine.
"We are strongly opposed to all provocations undertaken by some Western forces against His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia. We cannot look in silence at such attacks and regard them as illegal, inappropriate actions against a high-ranking religious leader who is a true spiritual symbol of modern Orthodoxy," Metropolitan Theodosius said in an interview with British journalists, an excerpt from which was published on the Russian Orthodox Church's website.
The metropolitan noted that Patriarch Kirill is not a participant in any political conflict and that as a "man of peace" he is always in favor of dialogue. "The accusations against Patriarch Kirill are false and baseless. Once again I want to emphasize that His Holiness has always called on the parties to reconciliation, to renounce war and violence," the metropolitan said.
He urged those in the West who are engaged in provocations against Patriarch Kirill to abandon their aggressive stance. "The provocations against the head of the Russian Orthodox Church are perceived by us as hostile actions by the West against the Orthodox Church as a whole," the representative of the Patriarchate of Jerusalem said. |
