31 May 2022, 17:22Chisinau mayor says won't allow LGBT pride parade to happen
Chisinau, May 31, Interfax - The Chisinau city administration will not allow an LGBT pride parade scheduled for mid-June to happen, Chisinau Mayor Ion Ceban said on social media on Tuesday.
"The city administration will not allow the scheduled pride parade to happen. You can do whatever you want at home but not in public," Ceban said.
Earlier on Tuesday, Metropolitan Vladimir of Moldova urged the city authorities to do "whatever it takes" to stop the encouragement of non-traditional sexual orientation in Moldova and to ban the pride parade.
The People's Assembly of Gagauzia, an autonomous region in Moldova, banned propaganda of same-sex relationships and LGBT pride parades on May 26.
A traditional LGBT festival, Moldova Pride, is planned for June 13-19. The festival usually ends with a solidarity march, which aims to "increase visibility of the LGBT+ community."
The festival was held online in 2020 and 2021 because of the coronavirus pandemic. |
