16 May 2022, 21:37Patriarch Kirill calls Orban one of few European politicians who stands up for Christian values
Moscow, May 16, Interfax - Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia has congratulated Viktor Orban on his recent re-election as prime minister of Hungary, highlighting his merits in protecting traditional morality.
"You are one of the few European politicians who in your activities pays much attention to the issues of supporting Christian values, strengthening the institution of traditional family and the rules of public morality. I know you as an active defender of persecuted Christians in the Middle East and in African countries," the patriarch said in a congratulatory message published on the Russian Orthodox Church's website on Monday.
Patriarch Kirill noted that in recent years, largely thanks to Orban's support and personal involvement, good relations have developed between the Hungarian state and the Russian Orthodox Church.
"I highly appreciate your care and attention to the needs of the Hungarian diocese of the Moscow Patriarchate, which with the full assistance of the authorities is successfully restoring and building Orthodox churches. Among them is the Dormition Cathedral in Budapest, an architectural jewel of the capital," the patriarch said, expressing his hope that this cooperation would continue in the future.
In conclusion, the patriarch wished Orban "strength of spirit and body, the help of God, and unfailing success in his lofty and responsible service to his country and people." |
