06 May 2022, 14:26Patriarch Kirill calls on believers to pray for Russia to be protected from external, internal enemies
Moscow, May 6, Interfax - Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia has called for strong prayers for Russia's independence and sacrificial work for the good of the country on the day of St. George the Victorious.
"Now is the time for special consolidation of all our people. We should all be together. We should realize that we are going through a difficult, dangerous and what at some point could be a pivotal period in our history," the patriarch said after a liturgy in the Cathedral of Christ the Savior on Friday.
He called on believers to pray for Russia to stay free, independent of all global centers of power as, in the opinion of the patriarch, this is the only way a great Orthodox country with a large good Muslim population - people who "have proven by their life and their sacrifices their faithfulness to Russia" - can exist.
"This amazing combination of the heroism, courage, faith of our people now gives hope for our victory, for liberation from any enemies who will want to attack our country, our land," the patriarch said.
"For as long as we combine our ardent prayer with our sacrificial work - everyone in his place, God's heavenly shield, which St. George the Victorious is holding in his hand, defending our Fatherland from all enemies and foes, St. George the Victorious will be watching over us," Patriarch Kirill said.
People should pray to the Lord to defend Russia from external and internal enemies, he said. "If there had not been people inside [our country] at one time who had wished for its defeat, our fight against the external enemy would not be so hard," he said. |
