04 February 2022, 17:01Some Protestants of Africa, following the Orthodox, expressed a desire to join Russian Church
Moscow, February 4, Interfax - Patriarchal Exarch of Africa Metropolitan Leonid has announced the growing interest in Orthodoxy among African Protestants after the entry of Russian Orthodox Church to this continent.
"In addition to Orthodox people, up to ten different denominations, including Protestant communities, Methodist and others, also want to be engaged, conduct catechetical courses, and in the future, if the Holy Synod and Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia agree, they would be accepted into the bosom of the Orthodox Church," he said at a Friday press conference in Moscow.
At the same time, the metropolitan noted that the clergy warn such people about the difficulties that the Russian Church is currently facing in Africa.
As reported, more than a hundred clerics of the Patriarchate of Alexandria, which don't agree with the creation of non-canonical "Orthodox Church of Ukraine" (OCU), declared their desire to move together with the flock to the Moscow Patriarchate. At the end of December, they were admitted to the Russian Orthodox Church, whose Synod established its exarchate in Africa, which caused indignation on the part of the Greek bishops who recognized the OCU. Now there are already 150 clerics transferred to Russian Church from more than 12 countries. |
